  • December 2024: Sharon's graduation ceremony. 

  • December 2024: Sharon defends her PhD dissertation and the commitee was very pleased with her research and performance. Congratulations! 

  • October 2024: Our journal paper that detailed a unique procedure to integrate adsorbent bed 3-D printing with in-situ resin cured adsorbent coatings  was published in Applied Thermal Engineering. Congratulations, Faraz! https://doi.org/10.1016/j.applthermaleng.2024.124708
  • October 2024: Our journal paper on yeast-engineered porous adsorbent layer fabrication is published in Journal of Environmental Chemical Engineering. We combined the principles of biomaterials, chemical engineering and mechanical engineering to make a thin porous cake that captures CO2!   • September 2024: Darshan attends the DOE Energy Earthshot summit held for the PIs of the awarded projects.  
  • August 2024: Stephan joins AETL and AETL outing at Bowlero

  • August 2024: Thanks to the Journal of Energy Storage for publishing our computational work on an adsorption-based energy storage system. Here, the system works like a typical battery—it charges quickly and then discharges slowly, yielding a near-similar discharging temperature as the charging temperature. Very fruitful collaboration with IIT Kanpur. https://doi.org/10.1016/j.est.2024.113097
  • July 2024: Rithwik joins AETL as an MS student. Welcome!
  • July 2024: AETL goes to Anaheim, CA for ASME ES/SHTC Conference. Sharon and Kaleem present their work on yeast-engineered adsorbent coatings, and Darshan presents Faraz's work on SLA printed adsorbent layers. Darshan also chairs some sessions. Finally, we said a quick hello the Pacific. Overall, a very productive trip. 

 

  • June 2024: Our paper on fabricating controlled void size adsorbent layers within minutes using photopolmer resins and an acid-base reaction is published in the Journal of Environmental Chemical Engineering. Congratulations Faraz and the team! https://doi.org/10.1016/j.jece.2024.113389
  • May 2024: Our NSF ERI proposal focused on simultaneous interactions between gases, liquids and adsorbents has been funded. This two-year research will experimentally and computationally investigate the effects of adsorbent wetting and porosity, heating rates and liquid saturation on two-phase flow regimes in microchannels and will help develop more efficient carbon dioxide separation systems.

  • September 2023: AETL goes to aerial adventures to celebrate some amazing things happening in the group. 

  • September 2023: Our DOE BER/BES Energy Earthshot proposal is funded. Dr. Justin North from Ohio State will be leading these efforts. Looking forward to doing some exciting science and working with our fantastic team.

  • August 2023: Nitish Chauhan successfully defended his MS thesis and did a perfect job in his presentation. The committee had no corrections for him. Congratulations! 
  • July 2023: Darshan presents our work on energy storage technologies using adsorption at ASME ES conference 2023 and hosts a student Hackthon. 

         

  • July 2023: Our paper on ethanol-based washcoating of MIL-101 (Cr) inside capillaries in published in Chemical Engineering Journal (Impact Factor 15.1). Congrats Faraz and team!
  • May 2023: Faraz passes his PhD Proposal Defense. The committee was highly pleased with his depth and breath of the completed and planned research. Great work and Congratulations! The AETL core team goes to dinner to celebrate it.   
  • March 2023: Faraz and Sharon successfully passed their PhD comprehensive exams. Congratulations!
  • March 2023: Darshan presents two topics, "Viscosity of Adsorbent Slurries" and "Porous Adsorbent Lyaers using UV Cured Photoplymer Resin" and chairs a session at the Annual ASTFE conference in Washington DC. 
  • February 2023: Darshan delivers an invited talk on "Enhancing the Appeal of Thermally Driven Energy Systems: From Synthesis to Demonstration" at University of Connecticut, CT.
