High Resolution Microscopy & Advanced Imaging Center
About Us
The High-Resolution Microscopy & Advanced Imaging Center is located in the Olin Life Sciences Building at Florida Institute of Technology in Melbourne, Florida.
Our purpose is to support the University in its mission: "To educate and challenge students in the basics of rigorous engineering and scientific theory, and to expand collective knowledge through novel research", by providing State-of-the-Art equipment for teaching and research.
Two electron microscopes handle the bulk of the imaging work in the facility. The first, a JSM-IT700HRLV Scanning Electron Microscope was acquired in 2025 via an MRI NSF grant (Award #2408574) to support Florida Tech and partnering institutions (Eastern Florida State, Eckerd College, and Winston Salem State University). The second, a JEM-120i Transmission Electron Microscope was obtained through funding by the State of Florida for the ASCEND program, intended to prepare students for the high-tech workplace of the future (installation pending).
These newly acquired cutting edge electron microscopes are designed to be used in a variety of applications including general imaging, biomedical research, materials analysis, sediment imaging, nanotechnology applications, and more. The addition of cryo-EM functionality to our facility provides significant enhancements to the imaging center, giving students and faculty the opportunity to realize Florida Tech’s mission and support our regional stakeholders.
