Mammals
While we can see almost any of our campus mammals in the wetlands, Crane Creek runs through campus and manatees are regularly seen browsing the banks.
West Indian Manatee
West Indian Manatee (Trichechus manatus) is a vegetarian that grows to about 3 m and can weigh as much as 540 kg. They can stay underwater for as much as 12 minutes, but generally surface to breathe much more frequently than that. View more information about the West Indian Manatee.
