The research focus of our lab is how biology and oceanography can link the smallest organisms in the oceans to the very largest, and what those links can tell us about the health of our oceans. We are primarily interested in the effects that harmful algal blooms (HABs) and their toxins have on marine mammal health and behavior, since these toxins often cause large-scale marine mammal die-offs. Our lab also investigates the effects of natural toxins on other large species that depend on marine habitats, including sea turtles, seabirds, shellfish, finfish and even humans.
