Dr. Novak is a bioorganic synthetic chemist who specializes in chemical toxicology.  He provides crucial direction with regard to which chemical systems of interest to pursue.  He also synthesizes the chemical analogs of tryptanthrin that are subsequently analyzed via scanning tunneling microscopy by the Olson Group.

Dr. Makksymovych is the project lead for the group's user project at Oak Ridge National Laboratories (ORNL) Center for Nanophase Materials Science (CNMS). He is an expert with ultra-high vacuum scanning tunneling microscopy, which he has applied toward investigatng tryptanthrin analogs.
