Minutes from Joint Software Alignment Meeting for Muon Hardware Systems - 3/29/07 (by MH) ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Comments and Discussion points raised during and after the various talks: On Samir's talk on calibrated root files: - Teresa promises to talk to the Cal/Ali group in person to see if they can help with accessing SQLite and SQLplus DBs within CMSSW at the same time since the Fl. Tech email requests for help with this were not answered constructively. If that fails, the idea of having the sensor response calibration data in the same DB as the raw data finds general approval. Post-meeting note (by MH): Oliver Buchmueller responds that a new DB group is forming in April and that the request should go to that group. On Gyongyi's talk on COCOA update for ME: - Valery and Jim B. are indeed aware of the different orientations of certain ref. CCDs in the endcap SLMs that Gyongyi pointed out. - S:0 problems appears to be solved by Pedro and we are FINALLY getting useful Chi^2's out of COCOA. - Duncan raised the question as how to interpret the errors on chamber orientations in the simulation. Marcus' quick & dirty answer is that these are due to all the various mechanical tolerances that are defined in the COCOA model. Needs more study for a more in-depth answer. - Pedro comments that the DCOPS errors should not only take the uncertainties on the mean of the beam profile into account, which can be as small as 2-4 microns, but also mechanical tolerances. Marcus is not so sure because tolerances are taken into account by the model itself and should not be double-counted. - Pedro also comments that clinometer data could be used to constrain rotations of alignment object. However, this is useful only for ME1 chambers. In the other layers, the clinometers are only on the transfer plates. However, at least the angles of the TPs could be constrained using clinometer data. On Celso's talk on COCOA update for Link: - Marcus asks Celso how long it took him to incorporate PG data into the COCOA model to come up with the encouraging results that he is showing in this talk. Celso's answer is "Several months". They started right after PG was done in summer 06 and are finally converging now. That tells us how much effort we will need for doing the same thing for ME and MB. - Oleg asks how to get information and drawings on how connecting the link with the ME+1 chambers. Celso has a link to drawings in his talk. Oleg will contact Dubna to see how to obtain this kind of info. On Marcus's talk on Concerted action on Reconstruction in the summer: - In general, the idea is well received and the suggested start date of 6/18 (CMS week) finds general approval. Not everyone can make a commitment for the full 4 weeks, but some may be available at least for 1-2 weeks. We agreee that everyone should email their plans and availability for "Alignment Summer Camp" to Marcus within the next week so we can plan. On Pedro's talk on COCOA development: - Teresa objects to Pedro working on producing root file output. We agree that Pedro's expertise is better used on the other open COCOA issue requested by Marcus. Teresa will try to find someone to work on this. Samir might be able to help once he is through with his root file calibration work, but that might be a few weeks.
