We will be accepting applications in the beginning of February.
Florida Institute of Technology will be having its second aquaculture and marine biology summer camp at the Vero Beach Marine Laboratory June 23-27, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The camp is open to all students entering fourth through sixth grade. Registration is due by May 25, 2014.
Campers will study fish biology, aquarium water chemistry, and the scientific method. The campers will also learn how to farm clownfish, seahorses, shrimp, coral and algae. At the end of each day, campers will visit other local aquaculture facilities to see how their lessons can be turned into careers in aquaculture and marine biology. Field trips will take place in such facilities as the University of Florida's Indian River Research and Education Center, Florida Oceanographic Society, and Proaquatix in Vero Beach.
The Vero Beach Marine Laboratory is located at 805 East 46th Place in Vero Beach, about 35 miles south of the Florida Tech main campus in Melbourne. The cost per camper is $300, which includes transportation to and from field trips, snacks and a t-shirt.
